Baseball memorabilia selected with an expert’s eye

Tom became a baseball fan by watching games with his grandfather, a New York Giants fan who adopted the Mets after the Giants moved to San Francisco. Despite that start, he became a fan of the Yankees and, of course, Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford and Yogi Berra. Tom purchased his first baseball cards in 1962 and with his brother Rick collected cards through the 1960s. Had he continued collecting through the 1970s and 80s, he could have scooped up T206 Honus Wagner and 1952 Mickey Mantle cards, now worth millions, for just a few hundred dollars.

High School, College, Law School and starting a family and career distracted Tom from baseball for a while. He returned to collecting in the early 1990s attending auctions and memorabilia shows. From the mid-90s to 2020, Tom amassed a collection of over 520 T206 tobacco cards (1909-1911) and a vast collection of pre-war baseball cards of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson and other early Hall of Famers. Now concentrating on the post-war era, Tom and The Last Firefly offer baseball fans a selection of cards, memorabilia, programs, media guides, vintage magazines, yearbooks, bats, gloves and ephemera.
